Five of our 15 hens have gone broody in the course of the summer. One of them--she had been broody on and off, in and out of the dog cage, for two months--beat me into submission. Three weeks ago, a friend of mine had ten broiler chicks arriving. The hatchery had thrown in two "exotics". She offered them up to me.
I don't eat meat. So raising two chicks who will most likely be boys is not what I would choose to do. But here they are. I know one if a buff polish because one of the "girl" buff polish chicks we adopted two years ago turned out to be a boy. And I suspect this one, with its apparent mohawk is a boy, too. But what the heck is this other one? Breed? Sex? Any guesses?
Both will go back to my friend once they're of an age. My hen will likely never forgive me. . . :-(
