Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Hi all, I was wondering I have a broody hen who in some way hurt her comb. It is bleeding on the tip. How do I treat her? Her babies are pecking it.

Is her comb broken or fractured? BluKote spray cannbe dabbed onnyour finger and then put on the area to color it purple to hide the wound. That can help with stopping the pecking. Betadine might also work. With either wear a glove because the BluKote especially stains, and keep those away from eyes.
Make sure that she can eat and drink since her beak is probably sore. If her beak is fractured, that may be harder to treat. Wire fencing can be hard on beaks. Let us know how she gets along.

I will try that, she is stalking up and down the side of the coop where her flockmates are and kinda growling at them? I think she cut her comb on the wire fencing. Should I move her and her babies to a different place for a little while?

Have you tried letting her in with the other chickens while she defends the babies? She might need to be separated for a day or two so she doesn’t hurt herself more. My broodies usually have stayed in the coop in a dog crate for 2 days. I then open it and she takes the chicks out on her own, shows them around, defends them, and they return to the crate in the evening for a few days. Then she choses where they sleep at night.

I can try that thanks for all the helpful advice!
