My hen just one chick about 2:30 p.m. today. She was in a nesting box and was staying on the other 4 eggs, but left to follow hatched chick. Eggs have all been under her the same amount of time. Another hen came and sat on eggs for about an hour after. Eggs have been left with no hen on them for a bit over two hours. I have an incubator on the way and have them wrapped in wet paper towel and a heating pad on low for now. Anything else I can do?

I might be a wimp, but this hen scares me and is a bit ornery. I tried to get near her and chick and she is just puffing up and getting ready to strike. Eggs were in a nesting box 2 feet up. I think this is going to be a problem in general with the chick hopping out. I have them in an incubator for now. This momma hen was born in October, so this is her first hatch, and ours! I am not sure how I could block them?
