Broody hen loves sitting but not hatching.

hi I have my first ever broody hen and she loves sitting on her eggs. Today I noticed that one of her duck eggs she was sitting on had a terrible rotten smell so we got rid of it. I felt so bad. So I got one of our other newborn chicks we were given and snuck it under her. She had no interest what so ever she even seemed scared of it. Did she know it wasn’t hers?!?!?

Was the little chick older than couple days old? Did you snuck them under her at night in the dark?

She is two days old. I did it in the afternoon right before it got dark.

How long has she been sitting? If not long sheay sense that its not time for chicks...and how many duck eggs and at what day is she still sitting on? If she does adopt the chick, it may very well cause her to abandon the nest

Yes it is probably a little early she has benn sitting for about a week and a half. I won’t be bothered if she abandons her nest I just want her to have a baby. Thank you.
