Anyone see this behavior before? Not sure if this chicken is a male or female. I currently have seven birds, presumably all hens. About a year ago, I removed a Rooster (definitely a Rooster, no question). About six months after that, this "hen" (on the lower end of the pecking order) started acting more aggressively towards me and the other hens. It also started mounting the other hens. A few months ago, it became very broody, sitting on the fake eggs I leave in the laying box to prevent them from eating the real eggs. It looks like a hen, has no spurs and has a very small crown. This morning I removed it from the laying box (with a fake egg under her) and just now, it was mounting a hen... Now, I'm not sure if she is laying eggs; I think so, but I can't be sure (a few times I've found seven eggs in one day with seven hens...). Also, the eggs seem to be fertilized, unless I am mistaken. I left some eggs out for a while and when I cracked them open, it looked like a micro embryo had begun to develop. What was this red (chick-shaped) blob if not an embryo? Please excuse my ignorance. I AM SO CONFUSED... IS IT A MALE OR FEMALE? Thanks in advance for your help!
