Broody Hen Still Not Laying

My broody hen found a nice little nest under our deck where we couldn’t reach her or her unfertilized eggs. We managed to get her and most of the eggs out in one piece, and completely block off the area. It has been a week now and she still isn’t laying in her regular nesting box. What’s the deal?

It’s pretty normal for Broodies to take a short break between sitting and getting back to normal . usually it takes between 1 week to a month, but it could be longer or shorter.

After being broody a hen needs to switch gears back into laying mode. I'd say about 2 weeks is average to start up again, but it can be shorter, or a lot longer, depending on the bird.
