my one broody hen for the past two days has had gross wet feathers at the base of her tail where the oil gland is. Her pen is very dry but she is raising a baby goose. Their also appears to be a red spot. Please help is their anything I can put on it. Will a soapy bath help?!?! She is acting normal and eating and drinking fine.
I'm wondering if since she is broody perhaps she just isn't bathing and preening as much as she should because she's spending so much time on the nest.
She has been off the nest for about two weeks now and she has been dust bathing quite a bit. IM going to put a little blue kote on the red spot but the wet feathers concern me!
Yes I have. After not being in their pen for the first time her feathers seem to be perfectly fine. Could it have been because she was away from dry dirt with a messy little goose? I will keep posted if they get gross again. Very confused but glad she’s better for now.
