    what are some good broody breeds and how often do they broody

    Silkies and cochins - I have had both breeds raise 5 + broods of chicks yearly.

    Well, somewhat simplistically, you give the broody hen eggs to set on, you separate her from other birds so that they do not disrupt/add to the clutch, in 21 days the eggs (assuming they are chicken eggs) hatch, you provide feed and water, she provides warmth and protection. Basically Momma does all the work.
