I am new to this and curious about how to introduce chicks to a broody hen. I live in Colorado and have ordered some day-old chicks froma hatchery which will arive in early May. I have heard that a good way to start the chicks out is to find a local broody hen and when the chicks arrive, introduce them into the nest so she acts as a "surrogate" mother to them.

Does anyone hav eany experience with this? Curious to know if it is successful? Would I be better off doing this method or just raising the chicks myself?

Also, if anyone knows of someone in Colorado (Denver area) with a broody hen they would be willing to sell me and work with me, please let me know.

Thanks!

It might be better to raise the chicks yourself as often broodies will not accept other babies unless they are mixed in with her own. Some want only their own chicks but some broodies are more accepting than others.
