Brown egg layers

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif
from northern Connecticut!

If you can narrow down the type(s) of birds you're interested in, you can post a "Wanted to Buy" listing in the BUY-SELL-TRADE section of BYC. It's a good idea to know a little bit about bird breeds BEFORE getting them (ie: are they compatible with your state's climate? do they bear confinement well? how often do they lay? etc.)

This site has a useful "Breed Index" that should help you and can be found here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/

MyPetChicken.com
also has a wonderful "Breed Selection tool" that will point you in the right direction after you answer some basic questions about what you're looking for (that's how I chose my first 14 chickens!): http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/which-breed-is-right-for-me.aspx

Good
luck and have fun!!

from NC! I would suggest Barred Plymouth Rocks, very pretty, brown eggers, docile, and rarely go broody. Good luck on your chicken hunt!
