Brown leghorn rooster or hen?

    My chicks are about 5 weeks now. The brown leghorn looks and acts quite different than the other chicks, I'm thinking she might be a he. These are my first 4 chicks. I really didn't want a rooster but the pictures of a grown brown leghorn rooster are beautiful. I would probably keep him. Any thoughts? Maybe too early to tell? [​IMG]

    You are talking about the chick in the far back with the bigger comb? If so I think you have a cockerel.

    Yes, if the brown leghorn is the one in the back, I'd say cockerel as well. What color are the breast feathers? I read on another forum that black breast in br. leghorns supposedly indicates rooster, orange is pullet. Here's an article in the Learning Center about keeping a rooster:

    Yes - it's the little guy or gal in the back. Larger comb. The feathers coming in or dark - almost black.
