OK, so I am in Carneys Point, NJ, Salem County. I have e-mailed and called the zonig officer a few times and she finally circled back. Of course after I put the down pymt on the coop.

Her message to me was.... I have to dig out the specifics on the laws, but I believe you need to have an acre for 25 birds. The ordinance does not say anything about keeping 2 chickens as "pets". As long as my neighbors are cool, they are kept away form property lines and she gets no complaints - she is none the wiser.

I'll add she totally supported my venture and commented if she had a toddler all over again she would do the same thing - teach her child where food comes from, cycle of life and the give-back to the Earth. In the same breath if too many people complain and blows-up with the next guys getting 6, the next person getting 12 and so on, the hammer will fall and we will need to make arrangements to rehome - or fill the freezer

So, we are moving on, one day at a time - and very excited about it
