I have a 4.5 month old buff cochin and am confused about the sex. She/he has a very prominent waddle/comb, but no pointy tail feathers. The roosters have been mating with her/him. Does that confirm she is a he? Here's a pic, and this was taken about a month ago.

I don't know. Looks like a hen to me.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic. [IMG]

Edited to add: I just realized that's an old photo. Can you take a more recent one? Chickens can change a lot in a month's time...

Yeah, I'll take a newer photo tonight. She acts like a hen, doesn't crow and like I said draws attention from the roosters. She just has that big ol' waddle and comb!

Need an up dated photo, but yep it can happen with over sized wattles and comb.

Judging by other sex-characteristics (hackle and sickle feathers) I think its a hen.

My buff does not have big waddles but my black and my blue both do.
    That's a pullet.

So the picture you have shown was of the bird at 3 1/2 months old? Since you say the bird is 4 1/2 months old, and the pic was a month ago? I've never seen comb and wattles that big on a 3 1/2 mo old pullet, but I guess it could happen. [IMG]
