buff orp cockerel?

    Pretty sure this one is a cockerel considering the wattles and comb but they've not got red or any bigger.
    I think our buff hen mated with our rir cockerel because he has some black tail feathers.
    Can people state all the obviously cockerel signs? Hes 11.5 weeks old.

    I disagree. That's a cockerel. Look at that comb at only 11 weeks old, and I see the start of saddle feathers curling around the tail. He even has the classic "roo" dark patches on his shoulders.

    rooster. No pullet is going to have that much red at 11 weeks. that's why age is so important when sexing birds.

    X2. On the Buff Orps I've had the comb is practically non existent, very small and pale or yellow, until they are about ready to lay their first egg.

    Cockerel, definitely. That red around the wings is a dead giveaway, also saddle feathers like those on that bird don't appear on hens.

    Hard to tell, but I am leaning towards cockerel.
