Buff Orpington “roosters”

We bought 6 pullets of 3 breeds in the spring and since the hatchery sends roosters of unknown varieties for “warmth” we decided to just buy Buff Orpington roosters and feed them out as meat birds. They’re now 18 weeks old and haven’t heard a peep or crow from the buff Orpingtons. Is this normal?

In my experience Buff Orpingtons have tended to be slow at maturing.

My Lavender Orpington didn’t crow until at least like 6-8 months. If you have other, older roosters that could be why too. I had another more dominant rooster so I think mine waited because of that. Although sometimes they’re just slower to mature like Sour said.

My Buff Orp was my earliest to crow, at around 6 weeks. But if you do have older roosters then that can definitely be the cause of cockerels not crowing.
