I bought this guy from a local seller a few weeks ago. I believe he is around 7 weeks old. I noticed these bumps on his lower jaw, back by where his wattle starts. They are on both sides, so I assumed it is normal. But I'm new to raising chickens, and I haven't seen any other chickens with this issue. Does anyone know if this is something I should be concerned about?

Welcome to BYC. Tough to tell in the pics, but are they small holes going through his lower beak?
Open his mouth and inspect in and under his tongue and lower jaw as best as you can and look for anything out of the ordinary such as scrapes, lesions, bumps etc...

I just tried to open his mouth, that was a no-go. The "lumps" are soft. Which makes me think it is part of the wattle. The dark spots kind of look like the wattle is separated from the beak. I will try checking his mouth again tomorrow. Sorry about the cruddy pics. I didn't want to flash him in the eyes that close.

What is his coop or brooder like? Could he have punctured or injured his underbeak on something, fence wire, or something sharp? Could another chicken have pecked him?
I built the brooder out of plywood. There aren't any screws or other pokey things in the brooder that I'm aware of. He isn't in the coop full time yet, but I built that from plywood and 2x4s as well. No obvious pokey things. I bought him from a local seller about 2 weeks ago. I don't know the conditions that they had for him. I have 8 pullets with him that are going to be 6 weeks old in a few days. I haven't noticed them getting aggressive with him, but quite the opposite. He has been aggressive with them at times, leading him to some time outs.😁 I haven't noticed any injuries to the girls though. I honestly don't know what has caused this. I didn't think much of it, being that it is in the same spot on both sides. Like I said before, I'm new to raising chickens. I just thought I'd ask some experienced chicken owners on here, if they have ever seen it before. Not to sound cruel, if it is a major problem that requires a veterinarian, I'm probably going to cull him. I don't have 100s of dollars to try to doctor up a $7 bird. Just being honest.

With the scabs or places being symmetrical, I'd say he poked himself on a feeder or fencing somehow. Probably where he lived before.

Interesting though.
Usually something like that I leave alone and just monitor, but if you feel you need to put something on the scabs, then I'd paint them with Iodine.

Something else you may want to do is basically for your monitoring/comparison, is to take a photo of those places every few days to see if there's changes (for better or worse) that way you have a visual of what's happening.

5 WEEK UPDATE:

Whatever was going on with Patrick, it healed up. He's doing much better now. He has 8 girls to look out for, and 4 more girls on the way. God bless.
