This is Nana. She is a Buff Plymouth Rock who arrived as a day old chick on June 30 from McMurray hatchery. At 13 weeks she's twice the size of my other 12 pullets, her feet are ENORMOUS, and she has a wattle/comb that puts my little Silver Spangled Hamburg cockerel to shame. She chest-bumps with my cockerel constantly but seems otherwise sweet and docile. I caught her trying to crow about 2 weeks ago, but it wasn't a clear, definitive cockadoodledoo. It was more of a gutteral 'croak,' and only that one time. I read that sometimes a hen will try to crow, but usually in the absence of a roo. All things considered, is Nana an early bloomer or do I have a second rooster in my little flock?
