Our order from McMurray included 3 extra chicks that I had assumed were extra (Splash) Blue Andalusians. They are nearly 2 weeks old now and I've realized that their leg and feather color is completely wrong, especially compared to the actual splash-colored chick. Their size is currently very similar to the Barred Rocks, Andalusians, and Black Langshans we received in the same order.

They are less "poofy" than the hatchery Buff Orpingtons that I've handled, which is why I suspect they may be Buff Rocks. One in particular is an excellent flier (better than the Hamburgs and Andalusians!) and they are all very friendly. Thoughts?

Headshot of JC. Chicks have single combs.

JC's legs, quite clearly not an Andalusian.

Pale buff feathers on JC.

Pale buff feathers with lots of peppering on (uncreatively) Pepper.

JC and a (Black) Blue Andalusian. The buff chicks were marked by the hatchery with a purplish-pink dot on the head.

Hatcheries usually like to include extra chicks ( most are roosters) to your order if you don't reach the minimum. They look like amber sex links to me or maybe the Pioneer crosses they sell. :)

Yep, they sure do like to send extras! We ordered over the minimum and received 5 extras.

I had not considered the possibility of sex links until reading your response. I ended up contacting McMurray and they told me they were red sex link roosters. So I guess that solves that!
