Building Coop and Chicken Searching

Hello Chicken People!

My name is Ilyssa and I am on the verge to have chickens! My roommate and I are building a coop now and searching for interesting chickens. I am looking for chickens that could lay well in the AZ winter and have character!

Any suggestions would be great!
I am very excited about my new experience to have chickens!

probably of most concern in Arizonna is providing lots of shade (natural or manufactured) to help keep the birds cool. Maybe opened sided (wire paneled) coops as well - the locals will have the best advice for you.
