****EDIT****
On the vet hospitals website....turns out MY vet happens to be an avian specialist! I'm taking her in today, already have emailed him these pictures. She's an amazing bird and I want her to live a quality life and not be in pain.

I'll keep this post open and update it for reference, for anyone who might need it!

The injury is on the pad of the foot only. It is large, bulbous, super hot to the touch, and reddish purplish. The vein going UP the leg seems to have darkened as well, compared to the other leg. I thought it was a hematoma but now I'm not sure because it seems like an infections would creep up the leg towards the heart. This gal is holding her foot up, not putting weight on it, and laying down a lot. She will limp to the food and water. She is not lethargic, she is aware and she is alert. Her foot has been swelling more over the course of two days. I didnt notice it prior to that because she was acting normally.

I have no experience with this. All my chickens and quail have had excellent foot care. I watch closely for scaly mites, watch their walking on a daily basis, make sure they have no hazards where they walk or forage, and the quail are my main egg source so their health is of utmost importance to me.

Can someone recommend something?

I have Tylosin injectable on hand as well as intramuscular/subcutaneous syringes. Treat or veterinarian? I prefer to treat at home but this is a quail only halfway through her life, so I'd like to make her comfortable and healthy.

***EDIT***
Added photos....as you can see she is absolutely beautiful, sweet as pie, and amazing. But you guys did she break her foot or is the infection deforming her whole foot!? Up close it’s all messed up I didn’t even notice until I took the close ups that the bones are crooked.

Hi Michelle, could you post some photo's please? It's much easier to try help if we can actually see the problem.
I am not a fan of injecting Tylan, the risk of it rotting the skin is too great. Is the injectable also water soluble? If so I would treat with this. However, if you have a vet that is experienced in working with birds I don't really see why you shouldn't bring this little one to them. As you say, you'd like to make her comfortable and healthy and if the infection has gone as far as you suspect it has, better safe than sorry. Best of luck with her!

Thank you!! Yes I will post some photos. I always am thinking it is so much worse than it is. I'll post and then let me know what you think. I appreciate it!

I have totally lucked out. I''m on my vet's hospital website and he happens to ALSO be an avian specialist. I'm gonna take her in. She's young and I'm not going to take chances. Thanks for your help!!!

I know this post is a few months old, but do you mind if I ask what happened? I have a quail chick with a similar injury. I hope your sweet bird recovered quickly.

Update to my post yesterday: I discovered my chick's swelling was caused by a hair wrapped around the foot and limiting circulation. The swelling hid the hair, but started to go down almost immediately after I cut the hair off. The foot is still a little swollen today, and the chick holds it up occasionally, but the chick is walking around and acting normally, hopefully not in pain. I hope your chick pulled through whatever injury or infection she had, also.

I had just read about hair getting wrapped around toes/feet an causing issues. Never thought I'd see it though. Amazing what one little strand of hair can do. I'll have to be more careful, my hair is really long...

Glad your chick is getting better :wee
