Well, I had a discussion a few weeks back, and still have questions. I know that Indiana have the Humane Slaughter Act, and that even in cases of 1000 or less, it seems that you are required to have an inspected USDA facility? Anyone have fact as to this process? I am afraid if I call, I will be 'in-the-system' and under the microscope. My goal is to sell about 100-chickens per year at the farmers market (legally) or similar arena. I just do not want to be fined, nor shut down. I read this: http://www.in.gov/boah/files/slghtr_LG-3-99.pdf -seems pretty specific with no exceptions! anyone have a recent document for Indiana that proves otherwise for small-scale operations wanting to butcher and sell?
