In the Brooder

I have a pair of button quails and the female has laid an egg every day for 12 days now. At first I took out the eggs but I’ve left the last six and she has laid them all in the same nest then she covers the eggs a bit. Could this mean she wants to brood? I’m concerned about leaving the eggs in there too long and then going bad.

On that note, anyone in the Bay Area want some button quail eggs?

Laying all the eggs in the same place is often a sign that the bird is about to go broody - though some will lay in the same nest forever without going broody. I'd remove the eggs every time she gets to 10-12. They won't go bad that fast and if she has more than that she won't be able to cover them anyway, should she decide to brood.
If she wants to hatch the eggs, I'd let her. If she has more than she can cover once she gets broody, remove a few when she's away from the nest.

Great. Sounds good. Thank you! I’ll leave her for a few more days. I wanted to change her cage but if she wants to brood I’ll leave her to it! Seven eggs now!
