Buttons and Coturnix Q

Discussion in 'Quail' started by Dipsy Doodle Doo, Mar 31, 2009.

  1. Hi! Is it physically and genetically possible for a Button male to mate and fertilize a Coturnix female?
I ask because I have a single Coturnix female in a Button quail pen and she's just started laying... and I was curious.
    Thanks,

If they can breed, wont the babies be sterile...

This is interesting.. Maybe some one should hatch some out if possible.. And see if the babies are fertile..

yes they can, it's been done before however almost always will need to be artifically inseminated [IMG]

Sam and I have talked about crossing them hoping they'd be fertile [IMG]
