When our wee flock arrived as day-old chicks twenty-seven-ish weeks ago, we were expecting a male or two—especially since the hatchery had sent three extra birds. For weeks and weeks, Hubby and I had great fun trying to figure out which of our chickens was a roo in the making.

Twenty-seven weeks.

Unless someone is a late bloomer...

...they're all hens!!!

Even the fine folks of BYC can be wrong, but apparently it's only once in a blue moon! ;D

Gosh, that's incredible!

Everyone is amazed. Yay Cackle. ;) Happily, not only do I eat plenty of eggs all by myself, our best friends at church have nine children. ;)

Also, one of my husband's coworkers also raises chickens (some really cool breeds, too) and offered to let us buy a few this year. She's hatching and of course knows she'll have some boys.

Or...*thinks* she does. ;)
