Welcome the first chick that I've ever hatched! Praise the Lord! Another one has pipped.

Day 4 today of my d'uccles!
Managed to get the humidity right.

10/10 eggs that made it to lockdown hatched! Praise the Lord! I started with 14 eggs, 3 were not fertile, and 1 seemed to have died early on in development. So about a 91% hatch rate!

Going to set these 22 eggs in a little bit (its 8:20? AM here, we are on central time). These are mostly Silkie mixes, hopefully will get some pure bred possibly. Could even possibly get Polish or Phoenix? The 5 bigger eggs are from a barred rock hen, but I don't know what they'd be mixed with?!
Curious to see what comes from these. (I pretty much already have most of these sold as mixed chicks, but we may consider keeping 2 or 3 if they turn out pretty...?)

I just had a Silkie-Phoenix chick hatch from under my golden laced sebright hen and its adorable!! (pictured)

Also, a good tip when setting eggs is to always candle the eggs beforehand to see any cracks or imperfections.

Last year's Halloween HAL started on 9/11 and had 362 posts by 10/10.
362/29 = an average of 12.24 posts per day.

This year's Halloween HAL started on 9/23 and already has 557 posts on 10/10! .
557/17 = an average of 32.76 posts per day
