    Hey peps,

Purchased 50 chicks from Cackle hatched April 1st.
Received 57, 1 was lethargic but was 100% within an hour of being unboxed!

20 Splash and blue silkies SR, received 22 + 1 black
15 dominique bantams SR, received 18
5 barred rock male bantams, received 5
10 crele oegb SR, received 11

I lost one dominique chick at 2 weeks of age, the rest are going strong and healthy!

Looking great! The most I have ever gotten is 1 extra per breed, and that is the hatchery's policy here.

@ChickenLeg I am wondering how long after you placed your order did you get your chicks? I ordered 15 splash silkie on Saturday, I did not specify a date just ASAP on a Wednesday ship date.

I placed my order back at the beginning of January I believe, and requested the date of April 1st. I looked at each breed's hatch dates to make sure that day was still available for all the breeds. I called in my order and I believe Ashley helped me and made everything very smooth. Chicks were here within 2 days of hatching.

If you look at hatch date and it still says available on the breed's webpage, then you can call cackle and ask for that specific hatch date

I've had my silkie chicks from Cackle for a few weeks now. Of the 18 I bought, 4 have died despite excellent care. (On a side note, I'm raising easter egger chicks I hatched out at home and haven't lost a single chick from my batch.) In addition, several of my Cackle silkie chicks are developing smooth feathering all over, not silkie feathers. I suspect that whoever supplied the silkie hatching eggs has a smooth feathered rooster that got in with the hens and has resulted in mixed silkie chicks. Since I paid over $65 for my silkie chicks, I'm not really happy with my results. I'm interested to hear whether your silkie chicks also turn out to be mixed or not.

Now you have me worried. Do you have pictures of the chicks. Also don’t they guarantee pure breed.

I just looked at their website, and it says they guarantee the chicks to be the breed represented. I guess I need to contact them and see if I can get some replacement chicks for the ones that have the smooth feathering. The staff were courteous and helpful when I went to pick up my chicks- I don't feel negatively about the hatchery; I just think I got some accidentally mixed chicks. In the pictures below, you can see this deceased chick has the black skin and beak, and 5 toes, feathered legs like a silkie, but the wing feathers are coming in smooth. Both my champagne colored silkies and several of my white silkies are developing this way, while the others have the silky-typical feathers.

Yes I would definitely notify them. Those are definitely smooth feathers and don’t repress breed.

Mine are coming in with 100% silkie feathers, and all mine are thriving.

Had 1 dominique bantam not make it but rest are super healthy! Sorry youre having problems.

** Also just counted and they sent me 12 crele not 11 ! so maybe i counted 1 too many dominiques or maybe they gave me 58 chicks instead of 57, regardless the crele are doing well
