So I called a restaurant to make reservations.

They don't take reservations...they put our name down for call ahead seating.

"What does that mean?", I ask.

"It gives you priority over walk-ins"

    "Isn't that a reservation?"

"No, it is just a way to give you priority"

"So, how do I get on this list?"

"Just let me know when you ware coming and how many in your party"

"Uh, 4 people and one baby at 6 tonight...but it is not a reservation, right?"

"Right.....Does the baby need a high chair?"

"Yes, please. Otherwise he would be a people"

"Ok, your call ahead seating time is 6 pm and you are a party of 5 including a baby."

Thank you. I wish you took reservations though...."

There is a difference... with a reservation they literally reserve a table. They don't let anyone sit at that table. It sits there empty until you get there to claim it.

With Priority Seating... okay normally you walk in... give your name... and then as tables become available the people on the list are seated in the order of arrival mostly. With PS, you get to put your name on the list as if you were standing there, but you aren't actually having to sit there and wait. Depending on how busy they are if you want a table READY at 6pm... well if they're uber busy... telling folks coming in that there is a 30 minute wait... then they might 'write your name down on the list" at 5:30... so that when you walk in a 6pm your name will be getting called saying "your table is ready'... might be a little off of course, depends on how busy, how long people take to eat/gab. But that's the general idea. Instead of having to get there at 5:30, put your name in the hat, and then eventually get a table sometime... you walk in at 6 with your name in the rotation as if you were there at 5:30.

    If that makes ANY sense...

Roadhouse has priority seating and I LOVE it. They don;t take reservations and if you don't call ahead you could sit there for 2 hours waiting for a table. And the looks of people faces that have been sitting there forever when you walk right in and get seated is priceless.

Yeah, trying to get what's in my head out onto paper, canvas, screen is always an interesting endeavor.

Someone needs to figure out how to map the human mind... put it in Mapsco form so we can figure it out.
