Looking for other penedesenca owners and breeders ?

Incase you don't know what Penedesencas, They are a Rare Spanish breed of Chicken
that are best know for laying dark brown/chocolate color eggs ( like Marans,Barnvelder,&Welsummer).

Lets get together by email or by Phone.

    Lets repopulate,
    Share breeding tips,
    Bloodlines,
We need to help promote the proper breedings of the penedesenca,
and help other interested in this almost lost breed.

They are super rare and are in serious need of other breeders to take interest and help preserve them.

    Who has them ?
What Colors do you have ?
Who has entered Penedesencas in a poultry show? How did you do?

    Also,
Penedesenca Breeders : Do you offer chicks, hatching eggs ,started birds, and or adult fowl.

Please post pics if you have them.

    Thanks, BYC'ers

Luann Keller in Greer SC is raising several varieties. She is trying to find more breeders, as well. I do not think she gets on here very much but you may can get her email off the list if you search the BYC list. She stays super busy with all her chickens. I do not think she has shown any yet but she has only one wheaten pullet, I believe. Most are black and Creles. And I think she has another color but can't remember. Those Creles are gorgeous! Too flighty of a bird for me but she loves them and those eggs are to die for! Much darker than any of the Marans eggs I have ever seen.[IMG]
When I go over to her house tomorrow I will try to remember to tell her about this thread.

I have Wheaten Penedesencas and Partridge Penedesencas. I'm very happy with my Wheaten breeders and the chicks they are producing. I love my Partridge hens. My roo's color is a bit dark, but he's producing nice chicks for me. I'm currently offering hatching eggs and chicks for sale [IMG] We've been hatching these guys a few at a time all winter to add to our breeder stock.

I got your PM ed and responded :) We will have hatching eggs in mid-February. We're getting lovely fertile eggs, but I want them to get into the Spring-swing before I begin selling [IMG] I can begin hatching to order then also. I'm finishing up my current hatch of Seramas and doing an in depth deep cleaning of both incubators :) My NPIP testing appt. is next Monday, so that will also be completed soon [IMG]

Penedesenca babies in December 2009 , 1 Wheaten & 1 Partridge-the light eggs are Barred Bantam Cochins [IMG]

How well do they lay? My marans lay a nice brown egg, but their production is not good . . . .
