Can 3 month Pullets eat laying mash with their older sisters?

[QUOTE="Chikkin4life, post: 20236110, member: @newchickenmom33, 2/19/18, or 2/19/17 because I have heard that it takes 5-6, 8-10, or 11-14 months to start laying. Which is right?[/QUOTE]
2/19/18. The first one laid on 7/2/18 was a rir, and then the next day a barred rock started and then a few more days another barred rock, and just three days ago our orpington started to lay. i just went back to picture to verify the date. They make an insane amount of noise before and after they lay it’s very obvious who’s about to lay when you watch them. So far they have all been consistent. However, only the rir lays in the nesting box daily. I have found eggs in the coop part of their house and in the run once. I’m waiting on the last barred rock to lay and then 5/5 will be in it. We almost have 9 week old pullets that we added to the mix.

I think mine may have started early but I think it may vary by breed. We bought ours for egg production and they are all considered “production” layers I think. That’s what I was told when we picked them. They haven’t dissappointed. Although, I think we have too many and I’ve started to eat more eggs.

@Chikkin4life

The only time I've ever checked is when one of my girls was egg bound. I could feel it in her abdomen. I'm pretty sure it was the shelled egg I could feel not the rubber egg behind it. I would say yes, you should be able to feel the egg at some point if you pick up the chicken at the right time. I hope that helps. If you do check, it doesn't take much pressure to feel it so you don't have to push hard, a gentle stroke was all it took.

I put the chicks in the coop last night with the big girls, and I saw them know and they had blood on the base of their beak!:hit:eek:

You're very welcome :)glad I could help.

Hiw old are your chicks vs your big girls? Did you allow some introduction time where everyone could see each other but not touch? BTW, most chickens are laying by 6 months. Some sooner, some later.
