My 2 young drakes have been head bobbing to 1 of my geese, she screetches at them and walks off. The same goose got mounted by another goose last week and she ran away from him. Do you think my drakes can tell this goose is female

Not a clue, but I think that young drakes aren't too discriminating in the objects of their affection, so it may not matter to them.

Young drakes will court male ducks, female ducks, geese, chickens, shoes, fence posts, tin buckets........

I think there is probably a pretty good chance they can tell male from female, but they are rather equal opportunity. It has more to do with whoever can't fight them off.

Drakes don't care about the gender of anything. They are randy equal opportunity abusers. After seeing one trying to breed a water jug, I developed this opinion.
