Shes not quite a year old, wellsummer, and i caused the injury. the gate to their run is a tall, wire fencing type. theres been so much snow and ice that the ground right by the gate is risen some and all hard ice. i came out to give them all their evening mash and somehow, i think i knocked her over and her foot was under the bottom bar. she seemed ok after, so at roost time, she laid down right in front of the pop door and no one else could get in. swooped her up, shes been in the house for 4 days now. I just thought I'd injured her foot, and last night found that that femur top didnt seem to be connected. Is it worth trying to fix her or is she in for a miserable life? shes the most luscious, nearly 1 yr old beautiful gal and been laying for a couple months-1 egg every 2 days.

I'd be tempted to splint her leg and give her the chance. I've had birds with broken legs that healed and ended up just a bit gimpy.

Is there any way your regular vet could do an xray to see if her femur is dislocated? Here is an avian skeleton to look at the bones, and do you think the femur is separated from the ilium or hip bone?

Let us know how she gets along, and hopefully the splint will help.
