I ask here because I believe people on BYC know everything. What kind of beetle is this? It measured about 2 1/4 " and at one point had a very much smaller version (about 1/4") sitting on its rear. Possibly a small male?
I am sure someone here knows the answer.
    thanks so much

It kinda resembles a Longhorn beetle but not sure about the color....Thats what came to mind to me with its large outstretched antenna
Maybe there is an entomologist on the board to help you better.....or an exterminator [IMG]

Thanks for the clues. I FOUND IT! It is a Broad Necked Root Borer and a female because of its size and a sort of appendage that is used to lay eggs. I put it over the fence so the chickens wouldn't eat it, but it seems to want to be in my yard. Chickens have been put away.

Isn't that one of those beetles that are destroying pine trees?
