Can chickens get hot spots?

One of my free range roosters has two huge bare raw looking bright red spots (well hidden) on both sides. He is top on the totem pole, no other chickens are picking on him. As of yet, I have not been able to catch him to examine him closely. I'm buying a net tomorrow. What could this be, and what do I do with him to treat him for it?

After you examine him post the results and then everyone can try to figure out what is going on. If the net doesn't work examine him at night with a flashlight.

I wish I could! He roosts in the top of my Mulberry tree at night - all the way at the top! He has his choice of three sheds, but chooses there!
