Can chickens scare away songbirds?

So I got this awesome bird feeder as a gift that will close off the seed opening if a squirrel or large songbird tries to land on the post, and I love singbirds, but NOTHING has gone to my feeder. I have heard some beautiful songs from my yard over the past week, but haven't seen their sources. The only birds I have seen are blue jays and mourning doves, but I want variety!!

Can the presence of chickens scare off smaller birds, even if the feeder is say 30' away from the closest part of the chicken pen, far from our house and where we frequent, and is about 5' off the ground? There are plenty of plants and trees for songbirds to make into homes..at my parents' house in MA, there are plenty of songbirds even with jays and other bullies and predators.

Am I just cursed when it comes to attracting birds?? Any help is appreciated!

Chickens will not scare away song birds, but attracting them to a feeder takes time. There are many bird feeder designs and they're not all great at attracting birds. An open tray feeder, while messy, squirrel attracting, and open to the elements, does, in my opinion, the best job in attracting song birds.

Hmm. Makes sense. So if I put a tray of seeds out near the feeder, they may eventually find the feeder and use it instead? Thanks for your help!

Hopefully by now you have some song birds to the feeder! It can take birds a little while to figure it out, but eventually they will come. It took over a week for the birds to find my feeders but once they did it was difficult to keep it filled!
