i was just wondering, can you feed chickens the tops off of the green onions? i feed them carrot and potatoe peals, and broccoli/coliflower stems and such but never feed green onion before.
The only thing is that the eggs they lay might have an oniony taste. Sometimes that's yucky. And potatoe peels can be toxic if they eat too much.....it's on a list somewhere......
When I first planted my onion crop last year I couldn't keep my hens out of it. They were eating the tops! I grew the patch mainly for the tops to eat and for seeds the following year. I never figured out why they would eat them if they are not that tasty to chickens. Apparently they thought they were tasty. I wondered if the green tops were natures own worm preventative.
