I am pretty new to this backyard chicken raising, I have 2 Cuckoo Marans and 2 Golden Sexlinks which I love dearly. As usual I love spoiling them and am always looking for additional food sources. We are not huge vegetable eaters but I do keep them in cabbage, salad greens, some leftovers and scratch. I was looking at parrot food the other day and thought it looked pretty good...sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, peppers and other stuff. Does anyone out there feed their chickens parrot food?

It is certainly a safe treat option, yes, As with other "specialty" feeds it can be rather pricey, an alternative is to buy "scratch" that is packaged in larger quantities and sold for poultry -- there are several different formulas out there, so it can take some comparing to find the ones with the whole grains, sunflower seeds, etc vs. just grain millings.
