I got one broody already hatched a few days ago. She and her chicks are in a large nesting box, seeming a good size for this purpose. This is where I also got a heat lamp trained overhead. Those chicks are several days old now so I had turned it off the last two days, thinking the mom would provide ample warmth.
Then the 2nd broody who set in the coop but out on the open has started hatching today. The first of these chicks I saw outside. Must have gone down the ramp, surprisingly. Then saw another by itself walking around on the deep litter inside the coop. I put both chicks inside the nesting box with the other mom and her chicks. Then turned the heat lamp back on. The hen didn't seem to reject the two I placed in there. I assume they'll be accepted as natural new additions to the flock, but still I wonder if this is best practice, considering my circumstances here already laid out. If any further questions or clarifications needed for a good helpful answer, please ask. Thanks, Nick

If it seems to be working, then don't try to fix it. But keep an eye on the chicks. Broodies are a fickle and unknown quantity. She may change her mind at any time and reject or even try to harm the foreign chick(s).

Ugh, gulp I thought reading this. I wrote the above last night and read this before checking this morning. Seems u were thankfully only half right. There are still 7 live chicks in the box, but the 2 littlest chix are right under the heat lamp while the 2 day elders are in the back under and close to tuff mama. Given the circumstances dunno what else I can do at this point. Thanks.
