I just purchased a hen that will lay easter egg colored eggs if you put colored eggs in with her. I was going to get plastic eggs, but what about hardboiled eggs from the grocery store that I dye? Anyone try faking their hens out with real hardboiled eggs? Golfballs don't work with mine yet. Thanks!!

No a real boiled egg would encourage the behaviour as they are tasty! I would get some wooden eggs (livestock store or Michael's craft store painted with non toxic paint)

Thanks Smoochie! I was thinking they might try to snack on it - good to know.

I used a golf ball because it was what I had. Ping pong ball would work, too.

On egg colors, I'm pretty sure a hen lays what it lays, putting colored things under her wont change what color she lays. A green layer might have slight difference in shade, but she produces the same pigment essentially.
