Can male chickens lay eggs?

I have a male chicken, (or that is what we were told) and he laid 7 eggs!! Is that normal chicken behavior?
Hi there and welcome to BYC! :frow

You may be confused about the chickens gender, but cockerels and roosters will NEVER lay an egg.

Pullets and hens can grow spurs, pointy saddle feather, crow, mount other ladies, etc. All that isn't super common but it takes place far more often than most folks realize! Some ladies start laying very late like 9-12 months if EVER.. it can be influenced by genetics. light, stress, etc.

Some chicken breeds like Seabright have hen feathered males. Boys can sing the egg song, search out nest sites, even sit on a nest. But they can NOT lay eggs. When we don't know for sure here, we always presume male.. that way instead of being disappointed we can be pleasantly surprised when it's a girl :)

Congrats on your eggs! :wee
