some of the chicks are rolling around in the shavings, and a couple have balding patches. they are living in my living room, so I can't imagine where fleas or mites can have come from, so what could be wrong? they were fine up until yesterday.

  2. Baby chicks do roll around. They lay on their sides, they burrow in the shavings when they start to scratch.

The balding spots are probably the molting of the fluff and beginning of feathering out.

I am guessing they are around 3-4 weeks of age ?

No, they dont have fleas. Sometimes the fuzz falls out faster than the feathers come in. Suede looked like a plucked roaster when he was about two or three weeks old. NO feathers on his back or fuzz, either.
