So, in September we canned a big batch of applesauce.
This morning we opened one (which was still sealed, by the way) and it had a bit of mold on the top. We would not eat it ourselves, of course, but If I scooped off the yucky part, do you think my chickens could eat it??

    Thanks.

I would not feed it to any animals. You see mold on the top, but the microscopic mycelium travel throughout the product and release toxins throughout it.

My rule = If I won't eat it, I won't give it to my chickens. Or dogs. Or cat.

They can take sick and die from the same bacteria and molds that will make us sick.

    Lol. Ok.

What about worms? Do you eat worms? No? Your chickens eat worms, right? No I know what you mean. [IMG]

Thanks. Looks like this applesauce is heading for the manure pile.

I eat snails and enjoy them tremendously. Especially with garlic and butter.

Worms? Haven't tried them but as long as they're fresh and wiggly and not moldy, I just might. I'll add a little garlic and butter, though. ;-)

Yum! Has anyone ever seen the movie "How to Eat Fried Worms"?
There are some great worm-eating ideas in there!

The first man to ever eat a raw oyster is supposedly the bravest sole in the world.

If that is true then the first human to eat moldy home canned food, is the dummies human in the world.

No, don't feed it to your Guys and Dolls.
