Hi! Today I bought 3 white crested polish chicks and I was just wondering if they can be given to my hen Baldwin. Baldwin has accepted chicks in the past and is often broody. Around 2 weeks ago she was broody. I'm still new at chicks so I wasn't sure if I should give them to her or not. Thank you anything is helpful!

Being broody is what kicks the hormones into gear to accept the chicks. If she's not broody, I'd not try giving her chicks as it will likely not go well.

X2, a hen that is not in the broody state of mind is highly likely to see, and treat, chicks as interlopers and has the potential to do great harm to or kill the chicks, at the very least she will not provide motherly care so the chicks would succumb to the elements
