so i thought i had 3 coturnix hens.
they recently started laying so for about 2 days now i've been having steady number of 3 eggs a day.
i went out to the coop happily expecting 3 more eggs.
ah there they are..
one .. two .. three.. four..
yey that's a lot..
wait what? 4?
i only have 3 hens..
what happened?

either one hen laid 2 in one day.. (is this possible?)
or one of my roos are a hen....but they have the golden chest with no spots.. hm....

can anyone tell me if its possible for 2 eggs from on hen in the same day....

Yup, hens can lay more than one a day but check your roos again anyway. You should only have one roo with this ratio of hens.

yes...I have had that occassionally as well. Thats a good little hen!

They can, but it's possible you have some hens that have very little spotting on the breasts, I've got a few goldens that look like roos except they don't have the blush on their faces. Do a vent check to check (gland behind the vent near the tail, if male it will excrete a white foam when you press on it) and look for the blush on the face. If it's brown, golden, or cinnamon (basically any 'wild' marked color), the males will get reddish coloring on their lower face and upper necks. (edit to add: only during breeding season)

I have 16 hen cortunix, and no roos, just 16 total, and the last two days I have gotten 17 eggs each day!
So beyond a doubt, they can lay more than one egg a day.
