I picked these two up about a week ago and was hoping for more info. The petstore didn't know DOB and im curious how old they might be? Also curious if they are males or females? I believe the the one is a yellow recessive pied? I'm completely new to budgies but read that this can affect the cere color in males?

I've been told that blue is female by most, however I'm getting a lot of different opinions on the yellow.

Any info or advice is greatly appreciated! 😁🐦

They appear to be relatively young 2.5-3 months and both appear to be female in the pictures. (White cere) if you notice that the cere darkens to a purple or blue over next few week, then one could be a male. With pet stores, its difficult to know age but most of the time they are barely weaned/fledged when they arrive. So the better question when purchasing from a pet store is how long have they been here. The occasional older budgie in a pet store will have a more easily discernible colored cere (brown for female and darker blue for males). They also tend to show more wild and/or aggressive behaviors.

I thought that with recessive pied that their cere stayed pink if male? I didn't think they turned purple? 😕

The girl ones get brown just above beak, blue for boys, those ones in pictures look young so beak colour could go either way, look more blue tho imo. The black lines on there head go back as they get older too.
