A Red Sex Link cock over a Rhode Island Red hen would produce 50% Silver (white) offspring with red leakage (they would look similar the father) and 50% red offspring with possible white leakage (similar to a RSL hen).

Will they still be great laying hens or should I find a ri red rooster instead?

A male chicken can breed pretty much any female chicken, as long as they're compatible size-wise. Breed does not matter in the least when reproduction is on the line [IMG].

Agree with Misha, you'll get a mix of red and white birds. They'll be very good layers of brown eggs.
