Might be a weird one but one of my chickens keeps laying and when I go to collect the top of the egg has a crack/ hole in it. It appears to be from when she lays it drops and cracks, it does not seem to be created inside her. The sack inside is whole just the shell has a hole. Is it safe to eat? should they be washed and refrigerated right away?
I have tried to cushion the fall a bit more but they just push everything aside.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks

[IMG] Fine to eat, but I would do so shortly after they have been laid.

"When in doubt, throw it out"! How much is one egg worth? Food poisoning is not fun. Mary

I crack them purposely to eat them.

We eat our cracked eggs if the crack has not punctured the membrane inside.
Like sourland said, we do eat it as soon as we can, though.

My Mother always saved the cracked eggs (they came from the store) for baking. She always used them up as quickly as possible.
