Large hatcheries breed chicks to be able to feather sex them at a very young age. Most non-hatchery birds do not have this trait. However ameraucanas can be sexed fairly early by their combs. The little cockerel's combs will have 3 distinctive rows and the pullet's will have a very small single row (pea comb).

I do. I sex my chickies at day old. That is just exactly what the store did that I bought pullets from.

again that only holds true for hatchery bred birds. Anything from lines not from hatcheries wont work, example my hatchery rosecomb leghorns are feather sexable my exhibition lines are not.
