I have some baby chicks that I hatched today and was wondering if you could possibly use sand for bedding. All I have is sand right now and don't want to get some shavings at the moment.

    Hi, and welcome to BYC!

I normally use puppy training pads for the first few days. That gives them a soft surface so they don't get splay legs. By the time they are a week old I switch over to Sweet PDZ or shavings. I've never used sand for new chicks out of concern for them eating too much of it. Do you have any paper toweling that you can use for the first few days?
