I have some BLRW and SLW chicks that are a day old. I am wondering if you can color sex them by the chest or head colorations? I have not seen any info online that tells me how to do this. Even the RedLacedBlue website doesn't explain. However, it does show two different chicks, a cockeral and a pullet, at just a few days old. So, I guess there must be a way to tell sex? Any opinions would be great!

No, only chicks bred as sex links can be sexed by color. Other breeds of chicks are bred to be feather sexed and still others can be vent sexed by an experienced person at one day old.

At what age would you try and feather sex chicks that can be sexed this way?

Again, as far as I know, they are feather sexed at the hatchery; one day old.

The people that make the $$ at the commercial hatcheries are the ones that can vent sex the chicks, it's an art form, and they still get it wrong 10% of the time.
