Can you tell if an egg is dead before it goes in the bator?

I bought some very nice ameraucana eggs today, locally. I was just wondering if there is anyone to tell if the egg is dead before I put them in the bator? Thank you!

No, it is not possible to tell if an egg is fertile before you put it in the bator. You can candle at day 4 to tell if it is fertile or not. My two eggs are hatching as I am typing this!!!

What about wether or not the yolk has detached?

The yolk? It should not be attached to anything. If you need to ask more questions, I will be online all night, updating my hatch.

The only way to tell if a egg is fertile is to stick it in the incubator and then check on day 4 or sometimes even longer. I would just stick them in the incubator and then check on day 4.
